Book Review: Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

Book title: Beauty Queens
Author: Libba Bray
Published: May 24th 2011

Summary: The fifty contestants in the Miss Teen Dream pageant thought this was going to be a fun trip to the beach, where they could parade in their state-appropriate costumes and compete in front of the cameras. But sadly, their airplane had another idea, crashing on a desert island and leaving the survivors stranded with little food, little water, and practically no eyeliner.

What's a beauty queen to do? Continue to practice for the talent portion of the program - or wrestle snakes to the ground? Get a perfect tan - or learn to run wild? And what should happen when the sexy pirates show up?

Welcome to the heart of non-exfoliated darkness. Your tour guide? None other than Libba Bray, the hilarious, sensational, Printz Award-winning author of A Great and Terrible Beauty and Going Bovine. The result is a novel that will make you laugh, make you think, and make you never see beauty the same way again.

Review: i had a hard time with choosing if i should read this book or not, it sounded fun and interesting but i wasn't sure it would be something that i would love and then my best friend bought two copies of this book one for her and one for me and we read it together, and i got to say that i loved it!, i thought it was hilarious, and fun, and just, wow, i didn't think that i would like it this much ( as always haha). I love how it's different from other books, and i loved how all these girls were so different and yet they worked great together. I bookmarked so many quotes that i liked in this book, i'll show a picture haha

Characters - At first i had favorites like Adina, Tiara, Petra, and i disliked Taylor a lot, i thought she was annoying, but after reading more and more i warmed up to her and ended up loving all of the characters, they were all different and just great, i loved reading about their point of views and learning more about them.

The "pirates" :
They were great and hilarious especially the captain Sinjin haha, they weren't like i expected them to be, but it was still great ( and i wanted to punch one of them, you might guess who if you read the book haha)

Stars: 4 out of 5, first i gave this book a 5 out of 5 but that was when i just read it, the only reason why i lowered it is because i hated the commercial breaks, footnotes and the whole classified chapters ( i did like it at first, i thought it was funny but after a while it got annoying to be honest). I do recommend this book, it is great, and i did love it very much.
